SHORT DESCRIPTION

Background
The EU4BusinessInnovative Tourism and Technology Development for Armenia” project is co-funded by the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is being implemented by German Development Cooperation GIZ under the umbrella of the Private Sector Development and TVET South Caucasus Programme. The project is part of the EU4Business initiative (www.eu4business.eu) of the European Union. The EU4Business “Innovative Tourism and Technology Development for Armenia” project has an overall objective to foster shared and balanced inclusive growth in tourism and innovative industries. The tourism component’s specific goal is the development of an enhanced tourism offer leading to good jobs and sustainable businesses for a transformative and inclusive growth in the three northern regions of Armenia. In this context and under tourism sub-component 1.2, Pillar 1 (Capacity Development of Tourism Stakeholders), the project in coordination with the RA Tourism Committee and with a focus on the private sector aims to conduct a tourism sector capacity needs assessment in order to identify main capacity gaps, provide an overview of capacity needs across the sector and to develop a demand-driven capacity development action and training plan.

Project Aim

The Tourism Sector’s Virtual Capacity Needs Assessment’s main objectives are: (1) to identify capacity needs within the tourism sector (2) prepare a list of current capacity needs incl. priority needs (3) identify potential ways for effective interventions (3)to draft a capacity training and action plan.


Services Provided

AGEG Tourism for Sustainability Consulting provided the following services:

  • Structured interviews and workshops with the key stakeholders (public &private) of the Armenian tourism sector.
  • Identify capacity gaps, weaknesses, and challenges in the tourism sector
  • Identify current capacity development opportunities, especially relevant in the current COVID-19 situation
  • Specify capacity needs related to specific target groups
  • Recommendations for suitable, effective, efficient and affordable modes/formats of capacity development measures to meet the identified needs
  • Development of a demand-driven capacity development action and training plan.
